About Promptbox File Transfer

What this service does

Promptbox File Transfer creates a short-lived retrieval receipt for moving files between devices or sharing them with another person. It is useful when an attachment is too large for email, when a QR code is more convenient than typing a link, or when the sender and receiver use different device ecosystems.

How a transfer works

Select files or drag and drop them anywhere on the page. The service uploads the files and produces a receipt with the information needed to retrieve them. Keep that receipt until the download is confirmed. Anyone who obtains the retrieval information may be able to access the files, so share it only with the intended recipient and avoid posting it publicly.

Retention and deletion

Transfers are temporary rather than permanent cloud storage. Files are normally retained for up to three days and may be removed sooner when an optional delete-after-download behavior is used. Keep your own original copy and do not rely on the service as a backup. Expired or deleted transfers cannot be restored through the public download workflow.

Security and practical limits

Do not upload material that you are not authorized to share. For highly confidential information, encrypt the files before uploading and exchange the password through a separate channel. Upload and download time depends on total size and connection speed. A browser window should remain open until its progress indicator confirms completion.

Common questions

Is this permanent storage? No; transfers expire and should never be the only copy. Can a recipient forward the receipt? Yes, retrieval information can be shared, so treat it like a temporary access key. What if the connection stops? Keep the page open and retry when connectivity returns; very large transfers benefit from a stable network. Confirm that the recipient successfully opened every file before the retention period ends.
